Description:
The KNGeoid18 hybrid geoid model, released by the National Geographic Information Institute (NGII) in 2018, is an updated version of the KNGeoid14 model. It covers the area from 33°N to 39°N in latitude and from 124°E to 132°E in longitude with a 1’ spatial resolution. A set of 12,117 terrestrial gravity data points are used for its computation, thus including over 2,500 new observation with respect to KNGeoid14. On the other hand, airborne and ocean (shipborne + DTU10) gravity data, as well as the terrain model are applied in the same manner as in KNGeoid14. Since new global gravity models including data from the GOCE satellite has been published in the meantime, the reference geopotential model is changed from EGM2008 to XGM2016. Additionally, 4,492 GNSS/leveling data points are obtained from new 3D control points. Therefore, KNGeoid18 is developed by fitting the gravimetric geoid to a total of 2,701 GNSS/leveling points showing a regular spatial distribution. The degree of fit between KNGeoid18 and these GNSS/leveling data is evaluated at the level of 2.3 cm. Compared to the remaining 1,701 points of GNSS/leveling data, KNGeoid18 demonstrates a precision of approximately 2.5 cm.
